Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri has urges the Commission on Elections to be more vigilant in screening election candidates to make sure these are not "Manchurian candidates".

Zubiri expressed concern that Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo's origins are not immediately traceable or verifiable.

"Ako mismo naalarma ako. Kung tayo nga takot sa drug politics di ba yung kung maraming pera itong mga sindikato drugs and gambling  makakapag elect po sila ng mga officials ng ating bansa nakakaalarma yan ha this might not be drug money this might be gambling money so if it is gambling money particularly illegal gambling money  nakakaalarma yan I think the Comelec should be more circumspect." he said.

"I'd like to appeal to our Comelec to be more circumspect more thorough pagdating sa mga issuances of certificates of candidacy pag di po mabackground check ng malalim ang mga kandidatong ito I know napakasimple lamang ang requirements sa Constitution but I think now because of the sa mga pangyayari dito sa ating bansa the Comelec has to be stricter in the issuance of certificates for candidacy in this particular issue," he said.

(I myself am alarmed. We have been very vigilant towards narco politics or narco politicians. This may not be funded by illegal drugs but by illegal gambling. The poll body must be more thorough in their background checks.)

"Kasi talagang delikado baka di na natin alam mga mayors, governors, congressmen, baka senador ay kung napanuod niyo yung pelikula 'Manchurian Candidate' kung saan ano pala sila, planted planted asset so we have to be very careful." Zubiri added.

(It's dangerous if mayors, governors, congressmen, even senators are Manchurian candidates who are planted enemy assets).

Senator Christopher Lawrence Go backs an investigation on Guo's origins and circumstances and qualification for public office.

The Senate Committee on Women under Senator Risa Hontiveros is already investigating Guo in relation to offshore gaming operations. Senator Ronald dela Rosa backs the investigation.
