MANILA (UPDATE) — Twelve areas were placed under tropical cyclone wind signal number 1 on Friday morning after a low pressure area east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur developed into tropical depression Aghon.

As of 10 a.m., the center of Tropical Depression Aghon was estimated based on all available data at 240 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. Moving west northwest at 10 kph, Aghon is packing 45 kph winds near the center and gusts of up to 55 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal 1 has been hoisted in the following areas:

Luzon

•Sorsogon, Albay

•Catanduanes

•Camarines Sur

Visayas

•Eastern Samar

•Samar

•Northern Samar

•Leyte

•Southern Leyte

Minanao

•Dinagat Islands

•Surigao del Norte

•Bucas Grande Group

•Surigao del Sur

Intense rains will be experienced until Saturday noon in Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands.

Meanwhile, heavy rains will batter Surigao del Sur, the rest of Eastern Visayas, and most of Bicol due to Aghon. Flooding and landslides are possible especially in highly or very highly susceptible areas to these hazards.
