<p>MANILA — Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has joined Aksyon Demokratiko and will run for Caloocan mayor under its banner, the party’s top official said on Monday.</p><p>Trillanes took his oath as a member of Aksyon Demokratiko before party officials, said Ernest Ramel Jr., the party’s chairman.</p><p>“Isa sa mga adhikain ng Aksyon ay ang malinis, mahusay at mabilis na pamamahala sa lokal na pamahalaan na may tunay na pagmamalasakit sa mamamayan&quot;, Ramel said in a statement.</p><p>(One of Action&#x27;s advocacies is clean, good and quick local governance with empathy for citizens)</p><p>&quot;Naniniwala kami na katulad ng pangulo ng Aksyon Demokratiko na si former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, ay magiging mahusay na punong-bayan si dating senador Sonny Trillanes&quot; he said.</p><p>(We believe that like former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso — Aksyon Demokratiko president — former senator Sonny Trillanes will be an excellent mayor) </p><p>Ramel answered in the affirmative when asked if Trillanes will run for Caloocan mayor in the 2025 midterm elections.</p><p>Trillanes — a former Navy lieutenant and an outspoken critic of President Rodrigo Duterte — failed in his Senate comeback bid in the 2022 elections.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/6/28/hontiveros-rejects-joint-2025-slate-with-marcos-admin-due-to-historical-issues-1336">RELATED: Hontiveros rejects joint 2025 slate with Marcos admin due to &#x27;historical issues&#x27;</a></div><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">He rose to national consciousness in 2003 when he and some 300 other soldiers stormed the Oakwood Premier hotel in the heart of the Makati Central Business District in a bid to oust then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo over alleged massive corruption in the Armed Forces of the Philippines&#x27; procurement system and poor medical services for soldiers.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">The Philippine Military Academy alumnus won a Senate seat while in detention and was eventually granted amnesty under the Aquino administration.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">He ran for vice president in 2016, but lost to then-lawmaker Leni Robredo.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">Earlier this year, he filed libel and cyberlibel cases against some Duterte supporters for accusing him of “selling” the Scarborough Shoal to China during backchannel talks in 2012.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">Trillanes has also filed graft complaints against Duterte and Sen.
