(Pagcor) on Tuesday reported that 5,793 online gambling websites and apps tagged as &quot;illegal&quot; have been blocked. </p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/09/15/23/pagcor-warns-public-vs-fake-illegal-online-gaming-sites">• Pagcor warns public vs fake, illegal online gaming sites</a></div><p>During the Senate Committee on Ways and Means hearing, Pagcor chairperson Alejandro Tengco said that since he was appointed in 2022, the agency has already identified 7,747 illegal gambling websites and online gaming platforms in operation. These include e-sabong, mobile apps, offshore sites, chat rooms, and Facebook ads promoting illegal gaming. </p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/05/03/22/duterte-orders-end-of-e-sabong-operations">• &#x27;Working against our values:&#x27; Duterte orders &#x27;end&#x27; of e-sabong operations</a></div><p>Of this number, 5,793, or 74.78 percent, have been successfully blocked, according to Pagcor senior vice president Raul Villanueva. The remaining 1,954 are still active. </p><p>Villanueva explained that government does not &quot;physically block&quot; the illegal gambling sites. </p><p>Instead, Pagcor endorses the illegal websites to the Department of Information And Communications Technology (DICT), which would then coordinate with the internet service providers (ISPs) who would do the blocking of the URL. </p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/business/2024/5/25/marcos-jr-expects-boost-in-jobs-tax-revenue-from-new-casino-resort-in-qc-2010">• Marcos Jr. expects boost in jobs, tax revenue from new casino-resort in QC</a></div><p>&quot;They do not physically block it, they order the internet service providers to block it. They are very dependent to ISPs,&quot; he said.</p><p>Pagcor is also coordinating with local digital payment gateways such as GCash and Paymaya to block payments to illegal gambling websites.</p><p>However, Tengco said that the blocking of illegal online gaming websites can sometimes be futile as they can easily &quot;reincarnate&quot; into a different website.</p><p>But Tengco said that their crackdown has also forced some illegal operators to finally register with the government. </p><p>&quot;The good news is in the last 45 days, 3 big companies involved in illegal operations or not registered, have already come up and manifested that they already want to be registered and will get out of the unregistered market,&quot; Tengco said. </p><p>As of July 3, 2024, Pagcor has listed <a href="https://www.pagcor.ph/regulatory/pdf/App%20Kits/List-of-Service-Providers-and-Game-Offerings.pdf">35 gaming system service providers</a> approved by its Electronic Gaming Licensing Department.</p><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><div><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/p44iax8s2Dc?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" width="640"></iframe></div>
