Former senator Leila de Lima will not be seeking any elective post in the 2025 elections, saying she has other priorities for the time being.

"Hindi po ako sasali sa electoral fray for next year anuman ang posisyon. 'Yan ang aking desisyon ngayon...dahil may iba pa akong priorities, marami pa akong inaasikaso sa buhay ko," she said in a TeleRadyo Serbisyo interview.

De Lima, a former justice secretary under President Benigno Aquino III, was incarcerated for nearly 7 years after being linked by President Rodrigo Duterte's administration to alleged narcotics syndicates.

All charges against her have been dismissed as of last month.

De Lima earlier said she plans to write a book about her incarceration, drawing inspiration from political figures like Nelson Mandela and Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr.

She also lamented the poor showing of Liberal Party candidates in recent surveys, saying the party faces an uphill battle.

"It’s really frustrating. We’re offering really very qualified candidates…pero medyo uphill pa ang laban at least based on the survey. Pero malayo-layo pa ang eleksyon kaya puspusan ang magiging preparasyon ng LP. Next week we're going to have a mancom meeting para pag-usapan ang pinaka-plano para ipa-angat ang ranking, popularity, acceptability and winnability ng ating mga kandidato," she said.

Possible LP candidates in the upcoming elections include former senators Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan and Bam Aquino, and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno.

Vice-President Leni Robredo will seek the mayoral post of Naga City in next year's election, De Lima added.
