MANILA — The Department of Health-Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD) on Tuesday called on employers to ensure that mental health services are readily available to their employees.

DOH-MMCHD Director Rio Magpantay said previous data from the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) showed 18 to 30-year-olds mostly feel anxiety and depression, which underscores the need for accessible mental health services in workplaces.

"Kaya ine-encourage po natin iyong mental health in the workplace. Unang-una po iyong gagawin natin, doon sa areas na nagkakaroon ng problema dahil minsan sa sweldo, sa pamilya, sa kung ano-ano pang bagay na work-related. Mental health in the workplace should answer those kinds of issues," he said during a press conference in Manila.

"Kung laging pinag-uusapan ang isang bagay, iyon po stigma mawawala iyan. Hindi po natin dapat itago. Kaya lahat po ng mga awtoridad na eksperto tungkol sa mental health ay dapat laging pinapakialaman ang kalusugang pangkaisipan ng kani-kanilang empleyado... kasi kung ito po ang nakakaapekto sa kanilang performance doon sa kanilang pinagtatrabauhan," he added.

"Ang gagawin po ng RISEUP project natin ay magkaroon ng capacity building, capability building ng ating mga doktor, mga nurses at iba pang kasamahan natin na medical allied upang mabigyan sila ng karampatang kaalaman na hindi man abot doon sa psychologist at saka psychiatrist na kakayahan, subalit makakatulong po ito sa simula. At kapag kailangan i-refer na, doon na sila pupunta sa psychologist o psychiatrist," he said.
"Ang gagawin po ng RISEUP project natin ay magkaroon ng capacity building, capability building ng ating mga doktor, mga nurses at iba pang kasamahan natin na medical allied upang mabigyan sila ng karampatang kaalaman na hindi man abot doon sa psychologist at saka psychiatrist na kakayahan, subalit makakatulong po ito sa simula. At kapag kailangan i-refer na, doon na sila pupunta sa psychologist o psychiatrist," he said.
