Former senator Leila de Lima has announced she will run for party-list representative in next year’s elections.

She is the lead nominee of the Mamamayang Liberal (ML) party-list, the sectoral wing of the Liberal Party.

De Lima, who was senator for six years but most of it were under detention, said though many supporters wanted her to run for Senate, she chose to join the House of Representatives for the 2025 polls instead.

She said the lower chamber needs to have more members of the Liberal Party and she wants to be a fiscalizer of the House of Representatives.

(I thought about it. The Liberal Party should not just be at the Senate alone. I want to be a fiscalizer at the House of Representatives, not just to advocate for the goals of Mamamayang Liberal, but to help demand accountability and search for truth in various issues.)

De Lima was detained for over six years and all charges have now been dismissed. She said the battle against corruption and illegal acts is not yet over.

She said the recent legislative investigations are now showing to the public what really happened during the time of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

(We are slowly seeing the truth, now seeing what they were hiding- the wrongdoing, deception to us.)

(Karma now faces those who abused me, those who wronged me.)

De Lima said her lawyers are now preparing to file a case for what her detention and the wrong accusations thrown against her over the past many years.

“You can move on, but at the same time demand accountability and justice,” de Lima said.
