One type of AI-generated content that can be used to spread false information is the use of deepfakes— or manipulated videos and audio that mimic real personalities, but are actually fake. Vishing or voice phishing is also a concern when someone calls a user copying a voice of some person.

Dy urged voters and political parties to file a complaint before the Comelec if they see AI-generated posts that are misleading or are fake. Dy said they can only act if the complaint is filed with Comelec, then they can inform social media sites to act upon the complaint.

Dy added, “What we actually want the social media network to do is to label them- ‘this is misleading, this is AI-generated, this is taken out of context, the source content can’t be verified.’ Yung mga ganung klase na labeling would help our people in assessing.”

DICT urges the public to be more wary with social media posts this campaign season, even if the post came from a friend. Dy said the public should trust legitimate new sources instead as posts are verified and underwent proper research and vetting.
