MANILA — The MRT-3 will be pilot-testing the deployment of 4-car trains to ease rush hour queues.In a statement, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the pilot-testing starts on Friday, October 17.The DOTr said it hopes this will shorten waiting times in between stations and reduce buildup of passengers from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.The agency said a 4-car train set can carry 1,576 passengers per trip, which is 394 more than what 3-train cars can accommodate.DOTr said it will be monitoring the performance of the 4-car trains and see if they can be deployed regularly.The MRT-3 deployed its first <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/8/26/mrt-3-deploys-firts-4-car-dalian-train-1015" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">4-car Dalian train set</a> in August. The DOTr said the Dalian trains will increase each train set&#x27;s capacity to 500 during the 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. rush hours.
