DOTr implements one RFID for all tollways in the Philippines

<p>MANILA — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has launched one RFID for all tollways in the Philippines.</p><p>Previously, drivers needed to have an Easytrip RFID to pass through the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), C5 Link, and the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX). Motorists also needed an Autosweep RFID to pass through the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), the Skyway, STAR Tollway, NAIA Expressway (NAIAX), Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), and Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX).</p><p>In a Facebook post, the DOTr said the &quot;One RFID, All Tollways&quot; would allow motorists to use expressways with just one RFID account.</p><p>To register for the One RFID, motorists must visit the website of their chosen RFID service provider. They can then remove the unchosen RFID sticker at the authorized customer service centers.</p><p>After this, they can buy load for their chosen RFID account that can be used in all Luzon tollways.</p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FDOTrPH%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0ZvyM6vTzsxZUyCVzJtRKg8jKLKs6KDeddfsQTUfV4AbDf41pNkS3Uk75vWyazMdel&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="250" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><div> </div><p>At the launch of the One RFID, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. admitted that having separate RFIDs for different tollways has long been an inconvenience.</p><p>With a single RFID now usable in all Luzon tollways, the President said this brings major convenience to motorists. </p><p>“Nakikinig tayo sa hinaing ng ating mga kababayan. Kaya naman pinag-aralan natin ang problema, at nakahanap tayo ng magandang solusyon,” he said. </p><p>Marcos noted, however, that those who want to maintain both RFID systems can still do so. </p><p>“Optional po ito. Kung hindi ninyo naman nagagamit ang isang sistema, ay setup ninyo, bahala kayo kung ano ‘yung kailangan ninyo. Kung kailangan ninyo ‘yung dalawang sistema na ipagsama nandiyan ang option. Kung hindi ninyo naman ginagamit ang isang sistema, eh manatili kayo doon sa inyong pang-araw-araw na pangangailangan,” he said. </p><p>DOTr Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez said it took eight years to unify the RFID systems for all Luzon tollways due to various challenges. </p><p>Businessman Manny Pangilinan also lauded the government for its efforts to push for RFID interoperability. </p><p>“With government help, we got the push that we needed kasi in previous years medyo matumal ang support and some technical issues,” he said. </p><p>Pangilinan is chairman of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, which operates NLEx and other tollways previously connected only to Easytrip. </p><p>In a joint statement, MPIC and SMC Infrastructure thanked the DOTr and Toll Regulatory Board for pushing for RFID interoperability. </p><p>“Their valuable guidance helped us navigate the existing regulatory environment, which simplified settlement mechanisms, so that motorists can enjoy a smooth and secure experience,” the companies said.</p><p>SMC Infrastructure is the operator of all tollways previously connected only to Autosweep. Lopez, meanwhile, assured the public that the unified RFID system will not affect toll rates. </p><p>“Hindi po ito isa sa mga rason o grounds para lang  makapag increase ng toll rates,” he clarified.</p>
