PH, India eye stronger partnerships in defense, BPO, other industries: Indian chamber

MANILA — As India and the Philippines celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce Inc. (FICCI) said the two countries are looking to forge partnerships across several promising industries.FICCI President Mr. Mahesh P. Mirpuri shared that both countries have begun government-to-government initiatives in the defense sector, while the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry remains a growth area.“As you can see, were already working government to government in the defense sector as well as our BPO and especially now AI seems to be the next play of which India Philippines is definitely a good way to work together,” Mirpuri said.He added that Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents another key area for deeper collaboration between the two nations. He emphasized that AI is not meant to deter or replace human jobs but rather to create more opportunities.“I really feel AI will really come into play to help businesses,” said Mirpuri.  Another industry with strong potential for growth, especially with improved technology and modern machinery, is manufacturing.He added, “If we can bring down cost in our country then it will be good for everybody.”Meanwhile, FICCI Honorary Mr. Rex Daryanani noted that part of this year’s celebration is the Golden Peacock Awards of Excellence in Government and Humanitarian Service Gala and Awards.“We will be awarding people in government that have shown excellence in how they govern, in how they run the different agencies,” shared Daryanani.Daryanani highlighted that the two countries have come a long way, especially marked by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s state visit to India.“We have come a really long way and the last state visit to India by President Marcos we have achieved leaps and bounds.”Tourism is expected to further increase for both countries now that citizens enjoy visa-free access and direct flights.“This is going to enhance and boost people to people interaction between both countries and with people to people interaction there’s going to be an uptick in tourism for both sides.”Anticipating a possible uptick in the businesses and investments for both countries.FICCI also sees that the agriculture sector for India and the Philippines, when paired with advanced technology and machinery, is projected to prosper even more as it continues to adapt to a fast-paced world.The Philippines and India are recognized as strong ASEAN partners, both striving to become self-sustaining nations within their own borders.
