MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is optimistic that the Philippine economy will “recover by 2026 and return to the government’s target range by 2027” after a meeting with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) officials, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said on Thursday.BSP Governor Eli Remolona and other BSP officials were in Malacañang to review the October 2025 monetary policy decision and the country’s economic outlook with the President, the PCO said.“The BSP reported that inflation has eased to 1.7 percent, with inflation for the bottom 30 percent of households at –0.4 percent, allowing the Monetary Board to cut the policy rate to 4.75 percent to support more affordable borrowing for families and businesses,” the statement read.“Although there was poor growth in 2025, the economy is expected to recover by 2026 and return to the government’s target range by 2027,” it read.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/11/7/ph-economy-grows-4-pct-in-q3-slower-than-previous-quarter-0920" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">PH GDP growth slows to 4 pct in Q3 as govt puts brakes on infra spending amid corruption mess</a></div>The BSP is set to “reduce the policy rate to stimulate more demand” as the “inflation outlook was good enough for the Philippines to be confident about reducing the policy rate,” the PCO said.For 2026, the inflation forecast is about 3.1 percent, while the inflation outlook for 2028 is pegged at 2.8 percent. Earlier this month, Marcos brushed off concerns that corruption issues hounding the administration have severely affected investor confidence in the Philippines, saying that the low peso-dollar rate as well as dips in the stock market were due to global headwinds.
