Job Manahan, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA (2nd UPDATE) – The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Tuesday unveiled its new immigration e-gates and other facilities in Terminal 3, with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. lauding the New NAIA Infra Corp.&#x27;s (NNIC) efforts to modernize the airport&#x27;s facilities. During the event, the NNIC also opened its Dignitaries&#x27; Lounge, which would accommodate VIPs, government officials, and diplomats, as well as its &quot;Tambayan&quot; food hall. The airport also unveiled its Transit Tour Initiative and Medical Tourism Concierge Area, which could be used by travelers during layovers. Marcos said the new facilities and equipment made it seem that NAIA &quot;looks like a real airport.&quot; &quot;It looks like the airports that we go through when we travel in other places and to finally see the airport at this – at least functioning like a modern airport.  The importance is the multiplier effect of this efficiency is quite massive,&quot; Marcos Jr. said. The President also thanked the NNIC for their continuous efforts in modernizing the airport. This is proof, he said,  that the country could be at par with global standards. &quot;Hindi lamang ito usapin tungkol sa imprastraktura. Ito ay usapin ng malasakit—ang pag-unawa sa pagod, pangamba, at pananabik ng bawat Pilipino at bisitang dumadating dito sa ating bansa. Because through this partnership, the airport has achieved a single-day high 92 percent on-time performance,&quot; he said. The NNIC earlier said the 78 immigration e-gates will use passport scanning and facial recognition to reduce wait times for travelers.The e-gates come from Amadeus, a global travel technology provider. NNIC General Manager Angelito Alvarez said they would implement a phased rollout on these e-gates in the coming weeks. &quot;Pag sa arrival and if you are a Filipino national, magagamit niyo na yan, pero sa departure naman, ang initial rollout ay para sa OFW workers pero bigyan pa natin ng kaunting tiis sa immigration. That will happen in one to two weeks. Sa departure kaya maingat, for the time being, OFWs muna ang tinitingnan natin. Marami kasi silang sistema na naka-leave sa kanilang system,&quot; he said. On Tuesday, a batch of Filipinos who arrived in the Philippines were able to experience this, and lauded the fast arrival process.&quot;Maganda. Bali nakaka-overwhelm kasi sumasabay na tayo sa ibang bansa, ina-adopt natin kung ano ang meron sa kanila. Less than a minute,&quot; said Ryan Santiago, who came from Taiwan. But if Ryan enjoyed the fast process at the e-gate, another passenger, Christian Puno had a different experience&quot;Medyo matagal pero okay naman. Baka kailangan mag-reset sa pinaka-una,&quot; said Puno.  NNIC expects daily travelers to hit 165,000 passengers in NAIA as the holiday season approaches. This was why the new facilities are seen as a boost for the airport&#x27;s capabilities during the holiday rush. It added that they are preparing for NAIA Terminal 4 and 5, which would be helpful in the airport&#x27;s decongestion. &quot;Ito ay good for domestic operations at dito natin ilalagay ang ibang domestic flights ng Cebu Pacific at Air Asia. Also by next year, baka more than 2 years, uumpisahan na rin natin ang Terminal 5 kung saan dating nandoon ang Philippine village hotel. That&#x27;s good for another 12 to 15 million passengers,&quot; said Alvarez. <div> </div>
