Secretary Laurel also advised the public to consider buying chicken instead of galunggong, citing tight fish supply as a factor behind rising prices. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Less than a month before Christmas, consumers and vendors in Muñoz Market, Quezon City are expressing their concern about the price increase of meat and vegetables. </p><p>“Kaya nga nakakalungkot dahil sa daing ng tao puro kulang tayo sa pera talagang humina rin ang hanapbuhay ngayon… Hindi talaga kakasya yung sinasabi nilang 500. Queso pa lang mahigit 100 na,” 78-year-old consumer Aida Pelonia said referring to the Department of Trade and Industry’s P500 noche buena budget.</p><p>Cooking the staple sinigang for the cold weather for four persons will now cost more than P500.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/11/28/dti-says-p500-basic-noche-buena-budget-depends-on-family-size-1653">DTI says P500 &#x27;basic&#x27; Noche Buena budget depends on family size</a></div><p>One kilo of pork belly (liempo) now costs P400 from P380.</p><p>Vegetable prices also increased over the past months because of the typhoons that hit the country. </p><ul style="list-style-type:circle"><li>Eggplant: P160 to P200 per kilo </li><li>Red onions: P200 to P280 per kilo </li><li>Tomatoes: P120 to P160 per kilo </li><li>Radish: P120 to P140 per kilo </li><li>Sitao: P50 to P60 per bundle</li></ul><div><br/></div><p>Meanwhile, one bundle of kangkong still costs P10, and garlic still costs at P160 per kilo.</p><p>“Dati na talagang mataas gawa ng bagyo, ilang bagyo na sunod-sunod, ubos na ang mga gulay,” vegetable vendor Thelma Secillano explained.</p><p>To save, vendors suggest consumers to buy pre-packed assorted vegetables that cost around P40 to P50 per half kilo.</p><p>Consumers can also opt to buy cheaper cuts of meat. Imported pork cuts also sell cheaper for P300 per kilo, based on the Department of Agriculture’s list of retail prices in NCR as of December 5.</p><p>“Mas mura yung mga buto-buto, P300 lang yung kilo. Yung ribs, P350 lang ang kilo,” meat vendor Lotlot Cortez said.</p><p>Because of the upcoming holidays, the price of one kilo of beef has also increased now ranging from P400 to P540.</p><p>The price of one whole chicken has also increased from P220 to P240.</p><p>“Tuwing magpapasko tumataas naman ang presyo ng manok talaga...
