MANILA — Cebu Pacific sealed a new strategic partnership agreement with Saudi Arabia’s Flyadeal Forge on Wednesday, May 28.Xander Lao, president of Cebu Pacific, reassured everyone involved that the airline is standing strong, even with the looming threat of U.S. tariffs that could impact aircraft manufacturers like Airbus.“Look, you can&#x27;t worry about something you can&#x27;t predict kasi paiba-iba talaga e. Everyday, nag-iiba ‘yung mood. So, let&#x27;s see what the impact of those tariffs will be. But we are fully confident that we have the necessary contractual protections,” Lao said. He also pointed out that there has not been any official word from Airbus, and deliveries are still on track.Even with the challenges in the global market, Cebu Pacific says it is seeing a surge in travel demand, boasting a 26% increase during the first quarter and keeping that momentum going into the second quarter. “We were also fortunate enough to be able to open some international routes outside or out here in Manila, rather. So, a lot of that international growth has been taken up by the public, so far. That&#x27;s been good. And not just Filipinos, by the way, but we&#x27;ve also started services recently between Japan and Cebu and that&#x27;s done quite well as,” said Lao.When discussing the effects of a stronger peso, Lao noted that it offers some cost relief since 70% of their expenses are in U.S. dollars. However, he cautioned that the currency&#x27;s fluctuations make it hard to predict long-term benefits.Looking ahead, Lao confirmed that Cebu Pacific is aiming for a 15-20% increase in total seat capacity this year, thanks to new international routes and upgrades to their existing aircraft.The airline has also adjusted its capital expenditure forecast to PHP 30–35 billion for 2025, a decrease from last year’s estimates.
