MANILA -- The Financial Executives of the Philippines (FINEX) called for integrity and transparency in the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

In a statement, the group said impeaching the vice president requires straightforwrd execution.

"We therefore urge Congress and the Senate to conduct this process with the highest integrity and transparency, following the framework of the Constitution," FINEX said.

"We believe that doing anything less will have serious effects on public trust, which in turn will impact our social stability and economic progress," the group stressed.

The business group said the impeachment process creates guardrails for the people who execute it and make them follow the guidelines set forth by the highest law of the land.

"No digression, do delays, no backsliding, no shortcuts," FINEX said. 

"Finding the truth and judging from knowing the truth are the only objectives of this process," the group added.

Duterte’s impeachment trial is facing uncertainties after the Senate decided to return the case to the House of Representatives to address alleged constitutional infirmities — a move which a legal expert said Wednesday was “alarming.”

Eighteen senators on Tuesday voted in favor of the motion to remand the articles of impeachment to the House until it can certify its non-violation of the constitution and the House of the 20th Congress can confirm that it still wants to pursue the impeachment trial.
