Mars Wrigley, one of the largest snacking companies in the world, is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its manufacturing unit in the Philippines. The company has a plant in Antipolo, its only food factory in Southeast Asia. The Antipolo factory produces popular chewing gum products, 86 percent of which are exported abroad including Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, Brunei and more. Products manufactured in Antipolo are Juicy Fruit, Doublemint, and Cool Air. “The factory size is 3.7 hectares. Right now around 55% are fully occupied with production and facilities. In terms of output, we can produce 30 tons of quality and world class gum daily,” said Macky Maquito, Factory Director of Mars Wrigley Antipolo. The company is investing $2 million a year for its Antipolo plant as they see the Philippines as a good manufacturing hub as well as having a growing market. Officials Filipinos love to eat snacks, including its popular brands like M&amp;Ms, Snickers, Skittles. “Philippines is all about snacking— probably 5, 6, 7 times a day. That moment of happiness, snacking together,” said Mars Wrigley Asia Regional General Manager Kalpesh Parmar He added, “Philippines will continue to grow very very fast for us.” Aside from chocolates and chewing gum, the company also has a pet care business which is also growing in the Philippines. The Board of Investments welcomes the fresh investments of Mars Wrigley and is happy that the company continues to stay and grow in Antipolo. “We took note of your substantial investments into improving technology for food safety and efficiency coupled with your biomass boiler that now allows you to reduce GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions by 679 tons annually,” said Corazon Dichosa, Executive Director of BOI. The company launched its Philippine operations in 1963 and opened its first manufacturing plant in Pasig in 1965. In 1999, it moved to its present location in Antipolo. It now plans to source 100 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2026.
