MANILA — The country&#x27;s power grid operator has raised a Yellow Alert over the Visayas and Mindanao grids on Friday, meaning power outages are possible in these areas.The National Grid Corp of the Philippines said the Yellow Alert will be in effect over the Visayas and Mindanao grids from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  &quot;A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement,&quot; the power grid firm said.The NGCP said several power plants in Visayas and Mindanao are on forced outage or operating below capacity.&quot;Ten plants have been on forced outage from April to July, and 6 other power plants out since 2024; while 4 are running on derated capacities, for a total of 423MW unavailable to the grid,&quot; the NGCP said about the Visayas grid.For the Mindanao grid meanwhile, 11 plants have been on forced outage from June to July, and 2 other power plants out since 2024; while 3 are running on derated capacities, for a total of 638.3MW unavailable to the grid, the NGCP said.The Luzon grid, meanwhile, is operating normally.President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. vowed during his recent State of the Nation Address to ramp up the electrification of underserved areas in the Philippines and resolve the power crisis in areas like Siquijor.Marcos also said 200 power plants will go online before the end of his term.
