<p>MANILA -- A lawmaker wants members of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) to be eligible for pension after just 10 years of working in the state&#x27;s service.</p><p>Under his proposed House Bill no. 3127, SSS-GSIS Pensyonado Party-list (SGP) Representative Rolando Macasaet, wants to lower the minimum number of years of government service to be eligible for a GSIS pension.</p><p>Currently, GSIS members must have served in the government for 15 years before they can avail of a GSIS pension. </p><p>“Given these parameters, a person who intends to retire at the age of 60 shall be in government service by 45 years old at the latest. To be entitled to GSIS retirement pension, he/she must be in uninterrupted and qualified government service from said age,” Macasaet said.</p><p>“Realistically, of the 2,100,257 active members, only a portion will complete the 15-year mandatory service requirement and qualify for retirement pension,&quot; he pointed out.</p><p>The lawmaker said the Congress needs to revisit the GSIS Act of 1997, and see if its provisions still serve the Filipino people.</p><p>&quot;By reducing the required years of contribution from 15 to 10, the bill harmonizes the GSIS contribution period with that of the Social Security System (SSS), which covers private-sector employees, thereby promoting parity between the two major pension systems,” Macasaet said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/22/ombudsman-suspends-gsis-president-veloso-over-p1-4-b-deal-1441" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ombudsman suspends GSIS president Veloso over P1.4-B deal</a></div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/8/7/gsis-defends-investment-in-online-gambling-says-fund-remains-strong-1205" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">GSIS defends investment in online gambling platform, says fund &#x27;remains strong&#x27;</a></div>
