Maya to unlink online gambling apps on August 16

MANILA -- Digital Bank Maya said it will follow the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas&#x27; directive to remove their in-app links connecting users to online gambling apps. On its official Facebook page, the country&#x27;s second largest fintech said that effective Saturday, August 16, 8 p.m. - access to gaming sites and apps through the Games feature on the Maya app will be disabled.Before this deadline, Maya customers may withdraw any remaining funds from linked gaming accounts back to their Maya Wallet via the Games feature.After the deadline, customers may withdraw their funds directly through the gaming provider&#x27;s website or app, Maya said.&quot;We will always safeguard our customers and ensure uninterrupted availability of all our financial services. Maya will continue working closely with regulators and industry partners to uphold the highest standards of consumer protection and full compliance with all regulations,&quot; the company said. Its rival, GCash earlier also said it will be following the BSP&#x27;s directive to cut links to online gambling apps.  According to data from gambling regulator Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., more than 32 million Filipinos participate in licensed online gambling. PAGCOR is pushing for stricter regulation of the sector, amid calls for a total ban.
