<p>MANILA -- Meralco is partnering with a South Korean firm to boost its push for nuclear energy in the Philippines.</p><p>In a statement, Meralco said its energy education unit Meralco Power Academy is partnering with KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School. Meralco will be sending scholars from the academy to the South Korean institute starting March 2026.</p><p>The scholars are part of power distributor&#x27;s Filipino Scholars and Interns on Nuclear Engineering (FISSION) program, which the company organized to build a skilled workforce in the highly specialized field of nuclear engineering.</p><p>Meralco also discussed potential collaborations with KEPCO on smart grid modernization, advanced metering infrastructure, grid automation, data analytics, and distributed energy resource integration for nuclear energy.</p><p>The company in April formally launched its nuclear energy program to assess the responsible deployment of nuclear power in the country.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/4/25/meralco-launches-nuclear-program-to-look-at-possible-rehab-of-bataan-plant-1205" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Meralco launches nuclear program, to look at possible rehab of Bataan plant</a></div><p>Meralco also said it partnered with DL Engineering &amp; Construction to explore the deployment of small modular reactors (SMRs) in the Philippines.
