Benise Balaoing, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Video commerce now makes up 1 in 5 or 20 percent of all e-commerce in Southeast Asia, a Google executive said Wednesday.</p><p>Sapna Chadha, Google Asia Pacific vice president for Southeast Asia, also noted that growth of video commerce in the region has quadrupled in the last 2 years.</p><p>The amount of time viewers spend watching shopping-related videos has also soared 70 percent, she added.</p><p>Chadha made the remarks at a YouTube Shopping Accelerator program, which aimed to encourage content creators to tag products they are recommending in their YouTube videos. The tag would then lead to a Shopee link where users can more easily buy the products.</p><p>In the Philippines alone, more than 1 in 5 creators is already enrolled in the YouTube Shopping affiliate program in the first 2 months after its launch in April.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/technology/2025/4/24/youtube-shopee-say-new-online-shopping-collaboration-minimizes-scams-2149" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">YouTube, Shopee say new online shopping collaboration minimizes scams</a></div><p>Jack Ng, Shopee Philippines head of commercial, said more than 500,000 products have been tagged in over 200,000 videos since YouTube Shopping was launched in the country.</p><p>This has led to more than a million unique views of Shopee from the world&#x27; leading video-sharing platform, he said.</p><p>&quot;Over the last two years, video commerce in Southeast Asia has seen an explosion, unlike anywhere in the world. A user will be attracted to a certain creator or product through a Short, but then they’ll want to dive deeper. Also really when people are shopping and they’re making a purchasing decision, they want more information,&quot; she said.</p><p>&quot;And so this becomes really unique in that users can engage in both the long form and short form to really understand,&quot; she explained.</p><p>Chadha said this is what leads consumers to trust YouTube.</p><p>&quot;We are the most trusted platform versus all other social platforms. In fact, viewers will recommend, they will actually really look to the credibility of YouTube creators’ recommendations and they will trust those recommendations 98 percent more than the other platform.&quot;</p>
