GSIS defends investment in online gambling platform

<p>MANILA — The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) on Wednesday assured its members and pensioners that its Social Insurance Fund remained &quot;strong, secure, and actuarially sound&quot; after a lawmaker questioned its investment in an online gambling platform.</p><p>In a statement, GSIS confirmed that it invested in the gaming giant DigiPlus Interactive Corp. but did not disclose the amount.</p><p>Sen. While we in the government cannot enter casinos, much less gamble there.)</p><p>&quot;Kaya bakit ang GSIS, todo taya, at ginawang puhunan ang pera ng public employees sa sugalan?&quot; </p><p>(So why is the GSIS going all in, using public employees&#x27; money to invest in gambling?)</p><div><strong>GSIS INSISTS MANDATE: &#x27;PROTECT AND GROW&#x27;</strong></div><p>In light of criticisms of its investment, GSIS said it will &quot;cooperate with oversight institutions and regulatory bodies in connection with its investment in DigiPlus Interactive Corp,&quot; as it vowed to support transparency and accountability in all its investment activities.</p><p>&quot;We welcome the scrutiny and call for public disclosure from various sectors, and we are prepared to present all relevant documents and data to the appropriate authorities.
