<p>MANILA — A motorcycle taxi platform said Saturday it is joining the United Nations’ Statement of Commitment on Road Safety, which seeks to institutionalize a “safety-first mindset and behavior” among riders. </p><p>In a statement, Move It said signing the commitment also aims to raise riders’ professionalism through skills assessment, background check, vehicle evaluation, and “continuous upskilling&quot;— supposedly part of their “Pasado Bago Pasada” initiative.</p><p>“This is paired with real-time safeguards, including overspeeding alerts, fatigue nudges, and trip monitoring, promoting a safety-first culture among its rider-partners,” the statement read. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/5/6/dotr-to-allow-motorcycle-taxis-to-continue-operating-while-waiting-for-law-1713"><strong>DOTr chief to release order allowing motorcycle taxis to continue operating while waiting for law<br/></strong></a></div><p>Move It General Manager Wayne Jacinto said the protection the motorcycle-hailing app offers to both riders and passengers “is engineered into both the people on the road and the systems that back them.”</p><p>&quot;Our aim is clear: high professional standards for riders powered by innovative technology,&quot; Jacinto said. </p><p>The firm said joining the UN Statement of Commitment to Improving Road Safety also means they promise to uphold evidence-based safety standards, distribute quality gears, and promote safety-first mindset and behavior on the road.</p><p>Jacinto signed the commitment along with Grab Philippines Chief Commercial Officer EJ Dela Vega, UN Secretary-General&#x27;s Special Envoy for Road Safety Jean Todt and UN Resident Coordinator in the Philippines Arnaud Peral. </p><p>There are currently three main players in the motorcycle taxi business: Angkas, Joyride and Move It. </p><p>They collectively provide livelihood to at least 45,000 riders.</p><p>Competition as well pressure to complete rides has led to unsafe behavior in some riders, including speeding and counterflowing on roads.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>MOTORCYCLE TAXI LAW STILL PENDING</strong></div><p>In January, the Motorcycle Taxi Community Philippines (MTCP) said it was time to prioritize and accelerate the legalization of motorcycle taxis to protect the jobs of riders and &quot;enhance urban mobility.&quot; </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/5/21/group-urges-motorcycle-twg-to-carefully-review-fleet-cut-vs-ride-hailing-app-0025"><strong>Group urges motorcycle TWG to carefully review fleet cut vs ride-hailing app</strong></a></div><p>Once signed into law, motorcycle taxis will be regulated by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) regarding the fares and other fees they may charge.</p><p>Motorcycle taxis will also have a speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour.
