GSIS eyes bus, river transport hubs; says to develop Jai Alai lot

Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><p style="text-align:left">MANILA — The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is eyeing to invest in transport hubs in Metro Manila, as well as to develop the old Jai Alai property in Manila.</p><p>At the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum, GSIS President and General Manger Wick Veloso, whose suspension order was just lifted by the Ombudsman, faced the media and said they will continue with the plan to develop the intermodal transport hub in Quezon City and study how they can invest in a river transport system along the Pasig River.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/5/hontiveros-denounces-alleged-gsis-investment-in-online-gambling-platform-1917">Hontiveros denounces alleged GSIS investment in online gambling platform</a></div><p>The proposed transport hub in the corner of Elliptical Road and Commonwealth Avenue was announced last year and was said to be similar to the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX). </p><p>Veloso said the property is owned by GSIS and they are currently in talks with various agencies on how to proceed with the development of the site.</p><p>“Nandito tayo sa stage na pakikipag-ugnayan to make sure all the moving parts, the agencies that are supposed to take part be able to put things together,” Veloso said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>&#x27;LOW HANGING FRUITS&#x27;</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>He said the location is very good since it can be connected to the future MRT 7 station. There will be shops as well to ensure that GSIS will also earn from the project for the GSIS members.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/2/24/gsis-posts-higher-net-income-in-2024-1817">GSIS posts higher net income in 2024</a></div><p>Veloso added, “The GSIS will take the lead in making the proposed transport hub be able to be operational soon... These are low hanging fruits. If you’re going to make money and help in nation building at the same time, you should do it.”</p><p>He also said he wants to invest in a Pasig river ferry system, but says he wants to study first how exactly GSIS can come in.</p><p>He said, “Gusto ko makipag-ugnayan pa sa mga gustong mag develop o magawa itong ating river transport. Paano natin ma-take off yan.”</p><p>“Pwede po kami tumulong at maintindihan kung paano natin mapagtulong-tulungan, sapagkat pag naintindihan ko magkakaroon tayo ng anggulo paano magkaroon ng asset ang GSIS. Offhand, the terminal if it is owned by us,” he added.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>JAI ALAI PROPERTY</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Aside from transport hubs, Veloso also hinted of new plans for the 6,500 sqm old Jai Alai property across Rizal Park in Manila. </p><p>Veloso said the property owned by GSIS should be used by the people, but at the same time should also benefit its members.</p><p>“One thing is certain gagawin po natin ng isang makabuluhang proyekto para sa mga Pilipino,” he said.</p><p>Veloso added, “Sayang po yun alam niyo kung bakit, art deco building yun.
