Office of the Civil Defense Bicol Region 5 "/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Damaged structures are seen in Masbate province during an aerial inspection led by the Office of Civil Defense–Bicol, a day after Severe Tropical Storm Opong made landfall on September 26, 2025. <em>Office of the Civil Defense Bicol Region 5 </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The National Electrification Administration (NEA) on Tuesday vowed to energize more parts of Masbate province following the devastation wrought by severe tropical storm Opong.</p><p>In a public briefing, Engineer Eric Campoto admitted among the challenges they face in powering mainland Masbate and Ticao Island, where a lot of debris need to be cleared.</p><p>Campoto said they are coordinating with the Department of Energy and other electric cooperatives for power restoration, and to fast-track the process in a month.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/9/28/-at-least-30-days-to-restore-power-to-storm-hit-masbate-province-governor-1045">&#x27;At least 30 days&#x27; to restore power to storm-hit Masbate province — governor</a></div><p>“Nakapag-deploy na rin tayo ng mga generator sets para po magamit po sa mga critical facilities in coordination po ito with DOE and other agency,” he said.</p><p>“Ang kinakaharap po namin siguro na hamon dito pagdating po sa restoration is iyong mga debris clearings po, kasi marami pong mga natumbang puno rin at mga nasarado [na] daan,” he said.</p><p>“Iyun siguro iyong pinaka-challenge po namin ng mga kasamahan po namin na linemen, pero kino-coordinate naman po namin sa ibang ahensiya like DPWH para po ma-clear po iyong mga debris po sa daan,” he said. </p><p>“Inaasahan po natin sa mga susunod po na araw ay unti-unti pong maibabalik po ang supply ng kuryente sa buong lalawigan po ng Masbate,” he said.</p><p>Aside from this, he assured the residents in Masbate that they already dispatched linemen and support teams, as well as help from other nearby regions for the power restoration.</p><p>“Activated na po ang Task Force Kapatid, may mga [electric cooperatives] sa mga hindi naapektuhan na lugar ang nandoon na po ngayon sa Masbate,” he said.</p><p>“Sa katunayan nandoon na ang delegation or contingents ng First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative, nandoon na rin po iba pong mga electric cooperative po sa Bicol Region gaya ng Sorsogon, Camarines Sur at iba pang mga electric cooperatives,” he said. </p><p>Around 358 line workers would go to Masbate for the power restoration, according to the official.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/9/26/opong-causes-power-interruption-for-over-600-000-residents-1726">Opong causes power outage for over 600,000 residents</a></div><div>  </div><div><strong>GEN SETS</strong></div><p>Campoto said for now, they prioritize providing gensets to hospitals.  </p><p>“Sa ngayon ay may siyam na po na generator sets na na-deploy po upang masiguro po ang tuluy-tuloy po na operasyon lalo na po sa mga critical facilities gaya nga po ng hospital, government institutions, banks at mga nagbibigay po ng mga pangunahing serbisyo po sa mga kababayan po natin,” he said.</p><p>Oil companies in the province, he added, are on alert to supply fuel and energy to other facilities.</p><p>“Base po sa Department of Energy, ang mga oil companies po sa probinsiya ay naka-high alert po, ma’am, ibig sabihin po nito ay naka-standby mode po sila at ready pong mag-supply ng mga fuel lalo na nga sa mga critical facilities gaya po ng hospital at evacuation centers,” he said.</p><p>Local officials earlier confirmed that 9 deaths have been reported in Masbate due to Opong.</p><p>Ten more fatalities are currently being verified to determine if they were storm-related.</p><p>As Masbate struggles to recover, residents call for help — from shelter and food, to clean water, medical aid, and power.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/9/28/devastation-and-resilience-masbate-reels-in-aftermath-of-opong-2241">Devastation and resilience: Masbate reels in aftermath of &#x27;Opong&#x27;</a></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZM80dq9oMMo?si=LRKN6B1olR985Un5" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><br/></div>
