<p>MANILA -- Mobile wallet GCash is now allowing users to receive one-time passwords (OTPs) in their apps.</p><p>To receive their OTPs in the GCash app, users need to turn on push notifications for GCash on their phones.</p><p>The fintech giant said this protects users from scammers who use OTPs sent via text message to gain access to their victims&#x27; accounts.</p><p>&quot;By sending OTP requests directly to the user’s authenticated GCash app, GCash ensures that only the intended users can receive and use the unique OTPs, protecting them from unauthorized access,&quot; the e-wallet said.</p><p>GCash also said one-tap authentication cuts down time spent switching apps, typing codes, or waiting for text messages to arrive, making transactions faster.</p><p>In June, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas urged banks and other financial institutions to consider other measures for multi-factor authentication aside from a one-time password.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/2/4/no-more-one-time-password-bsp-mulls-otp-removal-zero-transfer-fee-1619" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">No more one-time password?
