MANILA -- The IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) said the information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) sector has hit a historic high revenue of over $40 billion in 2025.Though they are still finalizing the exact figure, IBPAP President and Chief Executive Officer Jack Madrid said the industry has breached the $40 billion mark, adding roughly $2 billion from the 2024 figure. Employment numbers also increased last year, he added.“2025, on the whole, was very successful year for the Philippine IT-BPM industry. In terms of export revenue, we grew 5 percent… 2025 yearend, we will report 1.9 million digital workers,” Madrid said at a media briefing.This is a big feat, he said, especially since there were a lot of challenges in 2025, including geopolitical risks and other global issues. He said firms did not leave the country, and some actually expanded.The strengthening of the US dollar is also giving a boost to the industry.&quot;The appreciation of the US dollar to the peso has an immediate positive effect on the issue of cost because it makes us a little bit more competitive,&quot; he said.Madrid said he is seeing growth this 2026 in the traditional business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, but he said the GCC, or global capability center, is growing much faster. GCCs are offshore subsidiaries owned by the parent multinational company that usually handle support functions like IT, finance, human resources, among others.“We are actually positioned very well to be a very strong second to India in terms of GCCs. We have about 160 GCCs in the country now,” he said, adding that the GCCs are in various sectors like healthcare, finance, and more.Though he is seeing growth this year, he warned that the Philippines should not be complacent. The country, he said, should continue to implement reforms, particularly in the ease of doing business. Upskilling should also be prioritized in the country.“Let us be concerned about the ease of doing business. Let us deliver the promises we made to our investors by making it easy for them to do business. Let us avoid inconsistencies in implementation of rules and regulations,” he added.Madrid said they are continuously working with the government, submitting recommendations for policy changes or improvements to entice investors to set up shop easily in the country. He said that the majority of those in the IT-BPM sector are foreign investors, so it is important to make it easier for them to set up a business here. This is crucial, he said, because there are emerging IT-BPM nations aside from India.“They are aiming to capture some of the market share of the Philippines. Countries like Egypt, Poland, South Africa, Vietnam, Malaysia, Colombia in South America, Costa Rica,” he said.Madrid also hopes for improvements in the processes at the Bureau of Internal Revenue, local government units, as well as solutions to help lower power costs and improve internet connectivity nationwide.
