MANILA – SM Prime Holdings will open the SM Seaside Cebu Arena in June this year, which will be bigger than even the company’s current flagship Mall of Asia Arena, company officials said. Located within South Coast City, the arena has a building footprint of about 1.6 hectares and a total gross floor area of roughly 7.4 hectares. “Actually, the Seaside Cebu Arena is actually bigger than the SM Mall of Asia Arena. The seating capacity is 16,000 versus MOA of about 15,000. And full capacity is up to about 25,000 versus 20,000 in the MOA Arena,” said SM Prime President Jeffrey Lim during a briefing with journalists.SM Prime said the Seaside Cebu Arena is in talks with concert promoters, sports federations, and entertainment producers ahead of the opening of the new venue.“So they&#x27;re fully equipped to host foreign concert tours and major sporting events just like what we had in the MOA Arena like the NBA, the recent FIBA games, the volleyball game,” Lim continued.SM said it is looking to open the arena with a concert by a local artist, which will soon be followed by a concert by an international performer.“I think in terms of the opening act for the SM Seaside Cebu, we will probably have initially a local performer to be its first act in the Seaside Arena. But we are also planning a larger launch after that. Because sometimes it&#x27;s not easy to book international artists and usually their schedules are booked way in advance, sometimes even more than a year,” Lim said. “But we would want to ensure that the headline for the launch will be a global artist,” he added. The SM Seaside Cebu Arena will feature multi-level spectator areas, professional-grade sports and entertainment systems, corporate suites, VIP lounges, a range of food and beverage concepts and other lifestyle amenities, SM Prime said.“A SkyBridge will link the arena to SMX Convention Center Cebu and SM Seaside City Cebu to ensure efficient visitor circulation, comfort and accessibility,” the company said.
