MANILA -- Businesses were optimistic in January 2026, a new survey from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) showed.In its first-ever monthly Business Expectations Survey, the BSP said the business confidence index was at 0.9 percent. A positive confidence index means more businesses are optimistic than pessimistic during the period.The BSP attributed the business confidence to stronger demand for products like garments, education services, loan products, mailing and shipping services, and motor vehicle parts.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/2/27/inflation-seen-picking-up-in-february-bsp-1628" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Consumers more pessimistic, businesses more optimistic in Q4</a></div>Business confidence for the next 12 months, meanwhile, was at 38.6 percent. Enterprises said they are confident as they expect higher consumer demand, a better economy, and more investment prospects.Companies also said they are looking to hire more employees over the next year--the employment outlook index for the next year is at 23.3 percent.Meanwhile, 24.3 percent of businesses in the industry sector also said they have expansion plans for the next 12 months.Businesses also see inflation averaging 2.6 percent in the next 12 months. This is lower than the BSP&#x27;s 3 percent inflation target for 2026.
