MANILA — Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) is looking to pour roughly $400 million or roughly P23.5 billion into a 15-hectare maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) complex at the Clark Aviation Capital, a project that could further boost Clark’s emergence as a key aviation center in the country.Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and Chief Executive Officer Joshua Bingcang said Thursday that the aircraft maintenance provider formally presented its proposal to the government-owned firm last month. Bingcang said he hopes to close the deal with Lufthansa by the first quarter of this year.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/9/4/from-ground-to-flight-soaring-career-in-ph-travel-1527">From ground to flight: Soaring career in PH travel</a></div>“We’re negotiating (the lease rate) right now. They’re looking for a 15-hectare expansion in Clark Airport, so malaki din ang investment nila dito. It’s a big FDI (foreign direct investment). But we want to make sure that beyond the revenue, it’s the investment and jobs that they will be bringing,” he said.“Ang kagandahan nito, because of the quality of the Clark Airport runway, they will be building hangars to accommodate (Airbus) A380, the biggest commercial aircraft,” added Bingcang.The contract is expected to run for up to 25 years.This development comes as the Lucio Tan-backed LTP is currently negotiating a lease renewal for its MRO facility at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport following the expiration of its 25-year contract in August 2025.LTP saw a sharp increase in lease costs for its 22.6-hectare NAIA facility following the takeover by the San Miguel–led consortium, New NAIA Infra Corp., in 2024.Bingcang downplayed speculation of a NAIA pullout, saying that LTP plans to retain its operations there and that the Clark project is meant to support the company’s expansion.“They are still in NAIA, but of course, business is growing,” he said.
