Long queues of cars and motorcycles formed as drivers tried to fill up before the anticipated hike in gasoline and diesel prices. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib said the province was in talks with the representative of the King of Malaysia to purchase millions of liters of diesel as the Philippines battled an energy emergency due to the Middle East war. </p><p>The Philippine government earlier said the local oil supply would only be sufficient for the next 60 days, but restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping lane that carries about 20 percent of the world’s oil, could disrupt deliveries and continue to affect supply.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/3/27/marcos-philippine-crude-oil-supply-enough-until-end-of-june-0855">Marcos says Philippine crude oil supply enough until end of June</a></div><p>Jubahib said they established a connection with the King of Malaysia through Petronas and have already met with the latter’s liaison, who visited the provincial capitol, as Malaysia has reportedly committed to supply about 44 million liters of diesel to the province.</p><p>“So, ang liaison sa King of Malaysia, naa karon diha sa Tahanan para mag-sit down mi sa presyo kay direct nga sila ang contact sa Petronas Malaysia, kay naa na may authority nga gihatag, ug ma-compute kung pilay amount kay 44 million liters ang gusto nilang i-provide in 1 shipment,” he said in a media interview.</p><p>(So, the liaison of the King of Malaysia is currently there at the Tahanan provincial capitol so we can sit down and discuss the pricing, since they have a direct contact of Petronas Malaysia. We have already been given authority, and they will compute the amount, as they are planning to provide 44 million liters in one shipment.)</p><p>Jubahib said negotiations were ongoing and that they would inform the Department of Energy while preparing the depot for the shipment and securing funds. He added that he coordinated with the provincial treasurer’s office and the Development Bank of the Philippines, which reportedly committed to provide payment.</p><p>He also said he planned to tap private stakeholders and businessmen to help fund the diesel purchase.</p><p>The governor said the plan aimed to prevent disruptions in government services and ensure that businesses could continue operating to sustain the local economy.</p><p>He added that they would ensure the diesel would be sold at prices lower than current market rates.</p><p>“Kini siya, ibaligya ni siya, kung pila man ang presyo didto sa Malaysia, ibaligya nato nga the same price. I-manage nato nga walay pag-abuso,” he said.</p><p>(This will be sold, whatever the price is in Malaysia, we will sell it at the same price.
