George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News/File</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday said it will revise its proposed provisional fare increase following the sharp rise in fuel prices.</p><p>LTFRB chairman Vigor Mendoza said the agency had earlier recommended a provisional fare increase based on diesel prices at around P60 per liter.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/3/9/doe-54-gas-stations-tagged-in-alleged-hoarding-profiteering-amid-looming-price-hikes-0940" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">DOE issues show-cause orders vs 54 gas stations over alleged violations amid looming price hikes</a></div><p>But now that there are reports of diesel prices reaching P80 per liter, they said a higher fare hike is now certain.</p><p>&quot;Definitely, sigurado na...We want to prepare already for this matter, the numbers definitely would not be the same,&quot; Mendoza said.</p><p>&quot;The moment we get our approval, implement na kaagad. Binabago pa lang namin &#x27;yung numbers namin. So we&#x27;ll bring it up to DOTr today to discuss it with them. May urgency na kasi ang taas na masyado ng big jump,&quot; he added.</p><p>The LTFRB is also preparing the rollout of the government’s fuel subsidy program for public utility vehicle (PUV) operators and drivers.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/3/8/fuel-supply-runs-low-in-some-qc-gas-stations-amid-rush-before-oil-price-hike-2013" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Fuel supply runs low in some QC gas stations amid rush before oil price hike</a></div><p>The total budget for the subsidy amounts to P2.5 billion, with about P1.3 billion allocated for LTFRB-franchised vehicles.</p><p>According to Mendoza, around 256,000 PUV operators and drivers, including those operating jeepneys, UV Express units, taxis, and transport network vehicle services (TNVS), are expected to benefit.</p><p>Subsidy amounts may range from about P10,500 for modern public utility jeepneys, depending on the final allocation, while traditional jeepneys are expected to receive around P5,000.</p><p>The agency is currently coordinating with the Land Bank of the Philippines to distribute the subsidy through cards, which beneficiaries can use at partner gas stations.</p><p>&quot;We are just waiting for the funds to be brought out to us so we can deposit it in Landbank...
