Digital banks lead Forbes list of Philippines' best banks

MANILA — Digital banks are on top of the list of <a href="https://www.forbes.com/lists/worlds-best-banks/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Forbes best banks</a> in the Philippines.The publication said it partnered with market research firm Statista to survey bank customers who evaluated the services given by their respective banks. “Respondents shared their level of satisfaction with each bank, as well as how likely they would be to recommend it to others,” Forbes said. Based on trustworthiness, terms and conditions, customer service, digital services, and quality of financial advice, the following banks achieved these rankings: <ol><li>MariBank</li><li>GoTyme</li><li>BPI</li><li>UnionBank</li><li>Maya</li><li>Metrobank</li><li>Landbank</li><li>PNB</li></ol>Forbes said respondents were asked to rank these five criteria on their importance to them, and the categories were weighted accordingly. Survey respondents said trustworthiness, or confidence in the bank’s financial stability, was deemed the most important aspect of a bank, followed by digital services and customer service.MariBank is a digital-first rural bank owned by Sea Limited—the parent company of e-commerce giant Shopee and game developer Garena, which publishes the massively popular Call of Duty: Mobile game. It was formerly known as SeaBank, but prior to this was also known as the rural bank, Banco Laguna. According to its website, MariBank has just one branch, which is the Pagsanjan branch in Laguna. GoTyme Bank, meanwhile, is one of the fastest-growing digital banks in the Philippines. The company said it is looking to become profitable next year. Maya, which is the fintech arm of the PLDT group, attained profitability last year. The digital bank reported a net income of P1.7 billion for the full year 2025, contributing positively to PLDT&#x27;s income.The rest of the list was made up of traditional banking giants BPI, Metrobank, Landbank, and PNB. Globally, Forbes ranked Japan&#x27;s 77 Bank as the best bank, followed by Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Vietnam&#x27;s ACB, Switzerland&#x27;s Acrevis and AEK Bank 1826, Japan&#x27;s Aeon Bank, and China&#x27;s Agricultural Bank of China.
