The program targets public transport groups affected by massive fuel hikes stemming from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.  Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has allotted P238 billion to help the Philippines respond to the oil crisis.</p><p>In a statement, the DBM said the amount will be used for fuel subsidies for the transport sector, assistance to farmers and fisherfolk, healthcare support, and other targeted social protection programs.</p><p>The DBM said the amount will come from the 2026 budget, continuing appropriations, and automatic appropriations. </p><p>The agency said P2.5 billion of these will be used for fuel subsidies for transport operators, while an additional P1 billion will be for <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/4/8/dotr-to-offer-free-rides-via-service-contracting-of-puvs-starting-april-15-1936" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">service contracting</a>.</p><p>The funds will also be used for repatriation programs of the Department of Migrant Workers and employment support programs of the Department of Labor and Employment.</p><p>&quot;In times like this, targeted subsidies are the most prudent approach—ensuring that limited resources reach those who need them most, without compromising fiscal stability,&quot; said Budget Secretary Rolando Toledo.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/4/9/as-us-iran-agree-to-ceasefire-what-has-ph-done-since-the-middle-east-war-began-0912" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">As US, Iran agree to a ceasefire, what has PH done since the Middle East war began?</a></div><p>The DBM also noted that reductions in non-essential spending can result in savings ranging from P12.8 billion to P25.6 billion from March to December, depending on the level of compliance across agencies.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><div><strong><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OYLYNrCn81k?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></strong><br/></div>
