President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. visited the job fair at a mall in General Santos City. The most number of job vacancies meanwhile were in the National Capital Region.DOLE spokesperson Lennard Serrano said industries with the most number of vacancies at the job fairs are manufacturing, wholesale and retail, business process outsourcing, construction, and accommodation and food service.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/5/1/marcos-says-nearly-p2-t-worth-of-investments-approved-in-2025-to-generate-150k-jobs-1257">Marcos says nearly P2-trillion investments to generate 150,000 jobs</a></div>Overseas opportunities were also made available at the job fairs with nurses and cleaners as among the in demand jobs abroad. Serrano hoped that many Filipinos will improve on their skills to face the new trends in the labor market. He said government is implementing upskilling training programs.“Mas equipped sila, and later on, pag maghahanap na po sila ng kanilang mga trabaho, talagang may dagdag pa po na plus yung kanilang skill set,” Serrano said.SM Supermalls, which hosts several job fairs of DOLE, is also pushing for trainings to upgrade the skills of the Filipino talent.“We have the upskilling program… High end as technology like AI and cybersecurity, down to the very simple bag making, massage therapy, and even knowing how to to be a good barista,” said Jonjon San Agustin, EVP for Marketing of SM.Meanwhile, Serrano said the NCR regional wage board has started to review 17 petitions for wage hike.  Petitions include additional P200, P500, and even P800 to the daily minimum wage of P695.  <div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/1/protesters-demand-wage-hike-cheaper-commodities-on-labor-day-0917">Massive Labor Day protest demands wage hike, relief from soaring prices</a></div>
