MANILA—Ayala Land said it has commenced major roadworks in Taguig City as part of infrastructure preparations for two multi-billion-dollar transport projects aimed at decongesting Metro Manila.Construction began along a section of the East Service Road adjacent to the company’s Arca South estate in Barangay Western Bicutan, Ayala Land said in a statement. The works, which started on April 20, are scheduled to run until October.The upgrades are designed to expand road capacity ahead of the construction of the Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (SEMME)—also known as Skyway Stage 4—and the Taguig City Integrated Terminal Exchange (ITX).The proposed 32.66-kilometre SEMME toll road will connect Taguig to Quezon City, bypassing the capital’s notoriously choked arteries, EDSA and C-5. Once operational, the expressway is projected to handle up to 150,000 vehicles daily, drastically slashing travel times between southern and eastern Metro Manila.Meanwhile, the planned Taguig ITX will serve as a major intermodal transport hub for buses, public utility vehicles, and commuters.Ayala Land said the infrastructure upgrades would anchor its Arca South development as a primary transit-oriented district, dramatically improving access to Makati, Bonifacio Global City, and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
