MANILA — The purchasing power of the Philippine peso dropped to P0.7326 in April this year when compared to the peso in 2018.National Statistician Claire Dennis Mapa said this is the lowest purchasing power of the peso since rebasing was done in 2018. The peso&#x27;s 2018 purchasing power level was at P0.75 in March.The drop in purchasing power means that the 2018 peso has retained just 73 percent of its value today.This means that a consumer who was able to buy a basket of goods worth P1000 in 2018, would now need to have P1,369.86 to buy the same basket of goods today.A worker earning P15,000 a month in 2018 will now need P20,548 to afford the same goods and services today,An employee earning P25,000 per month in 2018 would now also need to earn P34,247 to buy the same goods and services today.To have the same &quot;lifestyle&quot; or buying power as someone who earned P50,000 per month in 2018, you would likely need to get P68,493 per month today.In a similar vein, inflation has eroded the value of P15,000 from 2018 which now has a purchasing power of just P10,950 today. While a P25,000 salary in 2018 is now worth just P18,250. A salary pegged at P50,000 in 2018 can now just buy P36,500 today. The Philippine Statistics Authority said inflation soared to 7.2 percent in April.
