The increasing inflation rate has also continued to erode the workers&#x27; purchasing power.</p><p>In May 2026, Central Visayas recorded the highest inflation rate among all regions in the country at 10.8 percent, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).</p><p>“It is just and equitable to grant a wage increase in order to preserve the workers’ standard of living,” wrote BIEN Cebu president Kyle Enero in their petition.</p><p>The petition highlighted that the BPO workers generated about $40 billion in revenue last year for the entire country. At present, 20 percent of these workers receive a basic monthly salary of only P15,000 to P17,000.</p><p>&quot;Workers are being asked to survive on wages that no longer reflect economic reality,” added Enero, emphasizing that P1,200 is a necessity in today’s economic climate.</p><p>The RTWPB-7 has formally accepted and docketed the emergency wage hike petition.
