Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines confirmed that budget carrier AirAsia Philippines has paid the over P270 million outstanding obligations before the June 6, 2026 deadline.CAAP Spokesperson Eric Apolonio said AirAsia representatives paid the amount Thursday morning. This outstanding balance includes unpaid landing and takeoff fees, parking fees, and other airport-related fees. CAAP operates most provincial airports in the Philippines where AirAsia also flies to like Bacolod and Iloilo.“Nag comply na sila. Binayaran na nila yung amount,” he told ABS-CBN News.This also means that the airline will continue to operate normally.Last Wednesday, CAAP issued a warning that the carrier may no longer be allowed to use CAAP-operated airports if they fail to pay the outstanding balance within a given timeframe.Apolonio said they also expect airlines to regularly pay now because of the improved system. He said, &quot;omputerized na kami ngayon. Before kasi nagsimula yan manual, yung reconciliation is very difficult.”AirAsia for its part said all its flights remain fully operational. It also slams what it calls “coordinated and sensationalized reports as part of a deliberate smear campaign” against them. The airline said they only knew of the CAAP warning after it was already posted in some online articles.It didn’t name names, but AirAsia said, “Such narratives serve only the interests of those seeking to limit consumer choice and create conditions that could lead to a monopoly in the market.”AirAsia Group Co-founder and Advisor Tony Fernandes said they will continue to expand their presence in the Philippines to offer more competitive fares and deliver greater value to Filipino passengers.“Looking ahead, we are incredibly invested in the development of new airport infrastructure across the country, including in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) and Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB), which will unlock greater opportunities for growth, improve connectivity, enhance operational efficiency and enable us to lower costs even further,” Fernandes said in a statememnt.“As we expand our fleet and aircraft orderbook to become the first narrowbody global low-cost network carrier, we intend to deploy more aircraft into our operations in the Philippines. These developments will allow Philippines AirAsia to expand our network, offer even more competitive fares and continue delivering greater value to Filipino travellers,&quot; he added.
