Photo courtesy of Agapito Hampaslupa</div>MANILA – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Tuesday extended tax deadlines for areas devastated by the recent earthquake, aiming to provide relief to businesses and residents in the southern region.Under Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 62-2026, tax filing, payment, and document submission deadlines falling between June 8 and June 29 have been moved to June 30, 2026.The extension applies strictly to taxpayers registered in South Cotabato, General Santos City, and Sarangani province. The bureau confirmed that no penalties, surcharges, or interest will be imposed on those who settle their obligations within the new timeframe.&quot;The President has directed a whole-of-government response to support affected communities and accelerate recovery efforts,&quot; BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza said in a statement. &quot;We hope to provide affected taxpayers additional time and flexibility as families, businesses, and local governments attend to immediate needs.&quot;Mendoza added that regional tax offices have been ordered to inspect their facilities for structural damage to ensure workplaces are safe before resuming normal operations.The quake has killed dozens, and caused extensive damage to infrastructure. As of this posing, thousands of households are still without electricity as the quake toppled power lines and shut down two major power plants.
