MANILA -- The peso may trade within the P61.00-P63 range vs. the dollar over the next few months, a Fitch Solutions unit said Friday.In its latest currency forecast, BMI said this is because of renewed escalations in the Middle East conflict, the firmness of the US dollar, and a seasonal peak in import demand.BMI said climbing oil prices will further weigh on the peso by pushing up the costs of imports.&quot;Recent data already reflect this impact: Import growth averaged 22.1 percent (year-on-year) between March and May, sharply higher than the 7.9 percent in the preceding two months,&quot; BMI said.The think-tank also noted that the demand for imports usually peaks in the third quarter, which means price pressures may worsen in the coming months. BMI also noted that financial markets expect the United States Federal Reserve to hike key interest rates by 25 basis points (bps) towards the end of the year.&quot;This should keep the [US dollar] relatively well supported, limiting the scope for a sustained peso recovery over the coming months,&quot; BMI explained.Nonetheless, the Fitch unit said the peso may strengthen modestly towards the end of the year--on the back of remittances from overseas Filipinos.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/7/15/cash-remittances-up-to-2-7-billion-in-may-2300" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Cash remittances up to $2.7 billion in May</a></div>The Philippine peso sank to a new record low of <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/5/18/peso-sinks-to-new-record-low-of-p61-75-vs-dollar-1620" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">P61.75 against the dollar</a> in May.
