Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/PPA pool </div>MANILA —  The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to award critical contract packages for the long-planned Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge, with construction expected to continue beyond the term of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said Monday.Speaking to reporters, Dizon said the government would soon announce major developments for the flagship infrastructure project, which aims to connect the provinces of Bataan and Cavite across Manila Bay.“Magkakaroon tayo ng mga malalaking announcement soon kasi malapit na tayong mag-award ng mga packages sa Manila Bay. Magsisimula na &#x27;yan at talagang excited na excited tayo diyan,” Dizon said.He said some portions of the project were underway, while the government prepares to award the remaining key packages.“Ongoing na tayo sa ibang packages pero mag-a-award na tayo ng mga critical packages very soon. So hintayin na lang &#x27;yung announcement natin d&#x27;yan,” he said.Despite the progress, Dizon acknowledged that the bridge’s complexity meant it would not be completed during the current administration.“Matagal-tagal &#x27;yan. Matagal &#x27;yan kasi komplikadong bridge &#x27;yan. Hindi &#x27;yan simple pero kapag natapos &#x27;yan, napakalaking ginhawa. Napakalaking impact sa ekonomiya natin,” he said.Asked whether the project could be completed before Marcos leaves office in 2028, Dizon replied, “Hindi. Definitely hindi matatapos ngayong term ni PBBM &#x27;yan pero hopefully, within the term of the next presidente [ay] matapos.&quot;The Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge is one of the Marcos administration’s flagship infrastructure projects. Once completed, it is expected to span Manila Bay and significantly reduce travel time between Central Luzon and Calabarzon.
