MANILA — At least two major railways will begin operations next year, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr promised during his fourth State of the Nation Address on Monday. Marcos said the North-South Commuter Railway will begin operating its segment between the cities of Malolos and Valenzuela. The Department of Transportation will also work to open the railway all the way to Clark City in Pampanga, the President said. Aside from this, the MRT-7 will also begin operating 12 of 14 14 planned stations next year, Marcos said. “Matapos ang halos tatlong dekada, may bago nang linya ng MRT na tutulak pa hanggang Sacred Heart, Quezon City, mula sa North Avenue. At balang araw, aabot pa ito hanggang San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan,” the President said. Marcos credited the faster turnaround for the flagship infrastructure projects to the passage of reforms to the country’s right-of-way laws. Major tollway in South Luzon, bridges in VisayasAside from railways, Marcos also promised that a major tollway will open this year, which will help ease traffic in Southern Luzon“Ngayong taon, matatapos na ang bahagi ng South Luzon Expressway-TR4 mula sa Sto. Tomas City, Batangas patungong Tiaong, Quezon. Halos labingpitong libong motorista araw-araw ang makikinabang dito,” Marcos said. Several major bridges that needed repairs have also been completed this year, he said.“Ang mga nasirang tulay — sa San Juanico sa Eastern Visayas, Cabagan-Sta. Maria sa Isabela, Piggatan sa Cagayan, Calbiga at Liloan sa Samar, at Panul-iran sa Iligan — ay kaagad nating naayos at ngayo’y nagagamit nang muli,” Marcos said.
