MANILA — The Department of Labor and Employment said it supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s proposal to raise the personal income tax exemption ceiling to P350,000. DOLE said the move is expected to boost the take-home pay of millions of middle-class workers nationwide.During his recent State of the Nation Address, Marcos urged Congress to pass legislative measures expanding the existing tax exemption threshold, currently set at P250,000 under the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law.Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino said expanding the bracket beyond minimum wage earners will provide immediate financial relief to low- to middle-income workers and local small businesses.&quot;’Pag ginawa po na P350,000 and below, ay mas marami po ang makikinabang dyan, definitely. Hindi lang minimum wage earners, kundi pati &#x27;yung mataas-taas sa minimum wage,&quot; Tolentino said.Tolentino urged lawmakers to prioritize urgent amendments to the National Internal Revenue Code. He said Congress could expedite the legislation before the end of the year, alongside administrative relief options such as tax amnesties that the Bureau of Internal Revenue may execute under existing laws.
