MANILA -- The Visayas grid is on Red Alert again on Wednesday, July 8, despite an earlier announcement from the Department of Energy that all power grids in the country are back to normal.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/7/6/doe-says-ph-power-grids-back-to-normal-1731" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">DOE says PH power grids back to normal</a></div>The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said the Red Alert is in effect from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., while the Yellow Alert is in effect from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.Available grid capacity is at 2,397MW, but peak demand is expected to reach 2,492MW. The NGCP said the Panay Energy Development Corporation’s Iloilo power plant was isolated because its 138kV Line 3 tripped. The Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC) also shut down because of a possible boiler tube leak.The NGCP said 10 plants have been on forced outage since July, while 4 have been out since June. Seven plants have been out since May, while one has been out since March. On Monday, the DOE said it has already issued show-cause orders to various power plants that bogged down unscheduled. DOE legal officer Gab Corpus said this does not mean that owners of these plants are already guilty of forced outage and recurring capacity derating, but only that they did not submit the required annual self-assessment forms on or before the deadline.
