MANILA - The implementation of the P12-per-liter fuel discount for public utility vehicles (PUV) began Saturday.The government has increased the discount from P10 per liter to P12 amid the rising petroleum prices.“Automatic na po ‘yan. Plate number lang po ang itse-check nila,” Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairman Vigor Mendoza II said.“Tulong po ng ating gobyerno sa atin pong mga public transport na jeepney at UV express,” he added.Mendoza inspected gas stations in Quezon City on the first day of the implementation to see if they are complying with the provision of the discount.After the inspection, Mendoza said they have not monitored any non-compliance.Regional officials, he said, were also checking the implementation in their respective areas. <div> </div>AMORTIZATION ASSISTANCEMeanwhile, Mendoza said he held a discussion with groups on Saturday morning to discuss the guidelines on the amortization assistance for modern jeepney drivers and operators.The amortization aid is P20,000 per unit per month for the next three months.“Nahihirapan ‘yung ating mga modern jeepney [drivers and operators] sa mga pagbayad ng kanilang amortisasyon,” the chairman said.The guidelines will have to be approved by the Department of Transportation.“Next week, pwede na po natin implement para mapamigay na po natin ‘yung amortization assistance sa ating mga modernized jeepneys [drivers and operators],” he added.Mendoza said there are other aid that they are working to roll out including rehabilitation, repair and maintenance, and training assistance.<div> </div>
