MANILA — San Miguel Corporation (SMC) reported Monday a 48 percent surge in its first-half core net income to P54.2 billion, driven by resilient performances across its businesses despite global market volatility and cautious consumer spending.Consolidated revenues for the first six months of the year jumped 34 percent to P964.1 billion, bolstered by higher volumes and prices in its fuel and oil division, robust power contributions, and steady growth in food, the company said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.However, SMC&#x27;s reported consolidated net income fell 44 percent to P37.7 billion, dragged down by foreign exchange effects and the absence of a P21.9 billion one-time gain recorded last year.&quot;Our businesses performed well in the first half despite a more challenging operating environment. While cost and market pressures may continue, our underlying operations remain sound. We will stay disciplined on costs, continue improving efficiency, and invest in areas that support our long-term growth and the country’s broader economic development,&quot; SMC Chairman and CEO Ramon Ang said.The group&#x27;s power unit, San Miguel Global Power, saw operating income soar 90 percent to P42 billion pesos. Petron Corporation&#x27;s revenues surged 57 percent to P605.9 billion on elevated crude prices, although its net income declined 27 percent to P3.8 billion due to higher operating and freight costs.Meanwhile, San Miguel Food and Beverage Inc. posted a 2 percent revenue increase to P205.3 billion, as its growing food segment offset a 1 percent dip in domestic and international beer revenues amid inflation.
