MANILA — The Visayas grid will be on Red and Yellow alerts on Tuesday, August 18.The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said the schedule is as follows:Red Alert 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.Yellow Alert 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.The NGCP said available grid capacity is 2,410 MW, but peak demand might reach 2,502 MW.A red alert status is issued when the power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulatory requirements. A yellow alert, meanwhile, means plants are producing less than the grid&#x27;s contingency requirement.The agency said two of Visayas&#x27; large coal power plants, Therma Visayas Inc. 1 and 2, are out. There are also lower power imports from Mindanao due to higher demand there.
