The Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) aims to restore power to around 700 homes affected by the incident within the day. <em>Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Energy Regulatory Commission has ordered Manila Electric Company, Meralco, to refund P9.5 billion to its consumers.</p><p>The refund is in relation to the actual weighted average tariff (AWAT).</p><p>Based on ERC’s decision, which was shared to the media on Sunday, the refund should be implemented within six months.</p><p>The average refund rate is P0.3448 per kilowatt hour.</p><p>The refund stemmed from ERC’s order, in which the commission declared July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2025 — Meralco’s original fifth regulatory period — as “lapsed.”</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/7/30/meralco-core-net-income-hits-p26-5-billion-in-first-half-up-3-8-percent-1500">Meralco core net income hits P26.5 billion in first half, up 3.8 percent</a></div><p>The ERC instructed the power firm to submit “its appropriate application for the true-up of its Maximum Average Price versus its AWAT covering the said period, subject to evaluation, confirmation, and approval of the Commission.”</p><p>Following the decision, the commission tasked Meralco to reflect the refund rates in a separate line item, using the term “AWAT (Refund)/Collect”, in consumers’ bills.</p><p>The ERC also directed the electric firm to submit reports until the amount has been fully refunded.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EN_6sSiluf8?si=26_jgZtQh7MHwV-P" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>
